Girls Gone Gatsby!

The Gatsby Trend is ROARING!!

The nostalgia of the 20s has a wonderful, glam yet carefree feel which translates into bridal effortlessly. This style can be easily played out into more than just the bridal gown; the bridesmaids can have a go of it as well!! The trick is to ensure that the looks don't come across costume like. Trendy is awesome, "pretendy" is something else.

Here are some styling tips to get your girls Gatsby"ed":

Accessories:

What a great opportunity to play with hair pieces, bracelets, cocktail rings, etc. Go all out!! A classic deep v floor length jersey dress transforms into another decade when paired with a beaded halo headpiece, layered pearls, and (do you dare??)...a backwards draped necklace.
amsale jersey bridesmaids dress, toni federici bracelet

Grayson Elise "snowball" headpiece is a Serendipity Bridal exclusive that is right on trend, at a fantastic price point and is a great choice for bridesmaids gifts!

Hair and Makeup:

This is probably the easiest, and cheapest way to play with this trend, but be aware of getting too literal. Take inspiration to interpret what works on each girl individually.

The ruby red lip and exaggerated cat eye is key, but not everybody can pull off this bold look. I suggest doing one ore the other on those that are more natural. Cat eye and lip gloss, or a deep red lip with mascara will give all the drama you need.

Hair styles will obviously depend on the length and texture of each member. Give them options and see what they prefer. I personally love the softer updo with a slight wave emphasizing the cheek bone.

Shoes:

T-Strap metallic stems happen to be CRAZY in style right now, and better yet, they are available in all heights. This will surely please everybody!

I hope that this has helped give some options of how to incorporate the Gatsby trend into your bridal party by simply adding to a classic look. Take a peek a Brides.com article for more ideas.

NY Bridal Market Recap- Marisa Bridals

It might come as a surprise that the line with the most social media buzz from NY is a designer that has very little marketing presence at all....

Marisa Bridals keeps their funding in-house to ensure the best quality fabrics and unmistakable silhouettes at an affordable price.

Their signature in the bridal are the flirty lace gowns that have adorned so many lucky brides, and even though they do not saturate the media market--you know a Marisa gown when you see it.

Here are some photos from behind the scenes:

Here is the gown that received the most "likes" on "Say Yes" facebook page:

NY Bridal Market Recap - Monique Lhuillier Bridesmaids

There is no question that Monique Lhuillier has tapped into their extremely successful ready-to-wear red carpet trends to create a beyond fashionable bridesmaids collection for Fall 2013.

Rich jeweled tones, with scattering of the palest of pinks were presented in high end silhouettes and adorable lengths. The proportions of the one shouldered pieces are perfection, and the stone shades of lace are spot on. Monique is the only bridal house that dared to dabble into the territory of the midi (or ballerina) length dress, and it would not surprise me if it becomes a trend that we will be seeing a lot more of.

Bridal Market Recap - Jim Hjelm Bridal

Known for sultry lace and incredible fabrics, Jim Hjelm Bridal stood was on top of their game at the reveal of Fall 2013 in NY.

Among the amazing creations, the collection was scattered with one-shoulder lace, beaded necklines, and impeccable bodice creations that could only come from this bridal fashion house.

Dabbling in the upcoming 1940s throwback trends, Jim Hjelm re-introduced the flirty fabric of silk charmeuse, which is so spot on.

There was so much wonderful movement captured in the fuller skirts, and yet the removal of the petticoat, was not missed at all. The slimmer cuts of the ruffled layers are unbelievably bridal without being overwhelming.

Bridal Market Recap --- Hayley Paige for Jim Hjelm Blush

Hayley Paige for Jim Hjelm Blush Fall 2013 was hands down, one of my favorite collections to be presented at NY Bridal Fashion Week. This uber feminine line is young, fresh and fashion forward. Deep, open backs, lace, and flirty necklines dazzled down the runway.

Hayley Paige is one of the youngest bridal designers, but she is no doubt, establishing her presence in the industry. Her attention to delicate details and frilly, but not fussy, extras create an individualistic design that makes her gowns recognizable.

The greatest and most innovative addition to this already trendy collection is the removal of the underlying petticoats within the full A-line skirts. BRILLIANT!! So many brides end up removing the extra "poof" to create a softer line while still seeking the effect of a formal, bridal skirt.

Hayley nailed it!!

Bridal Market Recap - Watters & WTOO Bridesmaids

Totally have to hand it to the design team at Watters---they truly pay attention to how brides are ACTUALLY styling their wedding parties, and creating collections accordingly.

Fall bridesmaids dresses were presented in color stories with assorted silhouettes to flatter all body shapes, as well as with the newest trends such as manipulated tulle (which was everywhere on the red carpet this year), illusion necklines, and their updated version of color blocking. (see bold, yet adorable boldly striped numbers below)

The hottest colors for Fall??? Rich greens and blues. These tones coordinate perfectly with all of the sheen and sparkle that we are seeing bridal gown fashion. Brilliant!!

Mixing and matching with long and short dresses is looking to be the new trend too, so don't hold back ladies...old rules out the door, it's all about the styling now!!
